The 1989 Bowman set was produced by Topps. Bowman was purchased by Topps in the 1950's and disappeared for more than 4 decades. It reappeared during the sports card boom of the 1980's. The 1989 Bowman set contains 484 slightly oversized cards. The cards measure 2.5 inches by 3.75 inches. The cards were released in midseason 1989 in wax, rack, cello and factory set formats. The simple card fronts have white-bordered color photos with facsimile autographs instead of a nameplate. The photo on the front is surrounded by a thin red frame. The fronts also feature small Bowman logos. The backs feature charts with a detailed team-by-team breakdown of how the player performed against specific teams. The cards are ordered alphabetically according to teams in the American League and National League. Cards 258-261 form a Father Son subset.
